Yesterday morning, I had the honor of facilitating a roundtable discussion at Greater Toronto Executive Centre - Flexible Office Solutions featuring our Associate Minister of Small Business & MPP of Mississauga Streetsville, honorable Nina Tangri, alongside influential figures in finance, entrepreneurship, & business community leadership. My goal was to engage in an open dialogue & present solutions on the barriers hindering the growth of Women Entrepreneurs & business owners in Ontario, as well as the role of and support needed by our government entities, financial institutions and the broader business community to thrive. We focused on three key topics: . Clearing the path, reducing barriers to starting and scaling a business in Ontario today . Access to funding & raising capital to successfully fund our ventures . An open dialogue on the current climate in running your business. The heart of this successful roundtable was not only the expertise and knowledge exchange, but personal insights and experiences shared as well. Thank you Jamie Doolittle, CPA (She/Her) Kalpna Sharma Upjit Kansal Donna Heslin Sherry Lin, CPA, CGA for lending your expertise and information on the various traditional & alternative funding options. I believe the primary message conveyed was the importance of having access to resources, experts, and education tailored to our availability. This entails a blend of in-person, digital, and virtual solutions, ensuring accessibility at our convenience. Key reason being, as women, we are not only the founders, leaders or managers of our business, but also the backbone of our families and at any given moment are managing multiple tasks as a parent, spouse, partner, caregiver and more. Being able to adapt and react quickly is part of our nature, & it helps us succeed in business but it also means we need information at a time & through a medium convenient to us. I imagined fostering an open dialogue & idea exchange, but my most gratifying moments include witnessing women connect with each other & enthusiastically offering to collaborate or connect others with helpful resources. Let's admit it, being an entrepreneur or senior leader can feel isolating at times, and finding the right solutions can be challenging. How can we effectively reach out to the wider community to share information and knowledge, empowering us to keep growing? Champions such as Dwania McLarty-Peele , B. Sc, B. A., Christine Hull, and Michelene Maguire, who lead highly successful business community groups supporting women entrepreneurs & business owners, play a crucial role as they serve as gateways to the broader community.
